What a term it has been!

It’s been a very busy and exciting summer term for Freshwater as we’ve been trialling our new drama workshops for the 2009-10 academic year, holding auditions and saying farewell to Phoebe, our fantastic intern.
Last week our facilitator Mark trialled a new ‘On the Spot Theatre’ workshop where, with minimal preparation time, he was launched into a class of 30 KS1 students to see if he could use their topic of fairytales to put together a play in just one hour.
Later that day, he led another group of KS2 students on a creative curriculum Quest for Knowledge to be promoted from Squires to Knights of Knowledge on the chosen topic - Healthy Eating.
Both workshops were very well received and were great fun to watch too. These workshops will be offered from Autumn 2009 in and around Greater London, on a range of topic from Space to Celebrations, Travel & Transport and The Olympics. We will also be offering primary schools the option of requesting a Bespoke Quest, on a topic of their choosing, for a small additional fee.
The trials continued over the next few weeks as another of our facilitators, Julie, helped a KS2 class to improve their speaking and listening skills with The Primary Speaker. The workshop will act as a launch pad for developing the physical skills and thought processes necessary for great public speaking and will be available for 2009-10.
Earlier in July, we held a skills sharing training event open to all Freshwater staff; Mel impressed everyone by turning a simple piece of A4 paper into an endearing and entertaining puppet (something that everybody seems to have incorporated into their daily life!) and Rachel taught us some really useful sign language. Other contributors included Julie, who gave ideas on the use of songs, and Kate and Natalie who gave their valuable advice on behaviour management.
We’ve also had auditions, which went extremely well, look forward to welcoming new workshop leaders into the Freshwater team next year.
