They are led by one facilitator and include lots of drama activities such as role play and hot seating and have links to many cross-curricular topics such as Myths and Legends, Traditional Tales, Tudors and Egyptians.

Book these workshops for your Book Week, Black History Month or Divali celebrations to bring the stories to life!

The Prince and the Pauper

Mark Twain’s tightly plotted Tudor tale explores what happens when a child from the castle swaps with a child from the slum. There is much humour to be had when Tom Canty and Prince Edward attempt to function in unfamiliar worlds until eventually, through wisdom and kind-heartedness, they each find happiness. This interactive drama workshop is a perfect complement to the study of the inequality between the rich and poor of Tudor England for KS2.

Beowulf

In this Anglo Saxon legend, Beowulf, the great warrior, seeks revenge on Grendel, the evil monster. This exciting drama workshop for KS2 brings to life the grandeur of the great Hall of Heorot and the unsavoury smells and sounds of the monster’s swamp. When Beowulf is finally victorious we have learnt many lessons, including how good will triumph over evil and the importance of courage.

King Midas

This well-known Ancient Greek myth reminds us that we should be careful when making wishes. When King Midas’s foolishness and greed leads him to turn everything he loves into gold he is soon regretful. The kingly domain, the ancient vineyards, the golden statues and the magic of the River Pactolus are all recreated in this lively drama workshop for KS2.

Isis and Osiris

This drama workshop for KS2 explores the exciting Ancient Egyptian myth about a pharaoh and his queen. When the evil Set repeatedly tries to kill his brother, Osiris, it is the devotion of Isis that finally wins the day and Osiris is reborn as the god of the underworld. The exotic world of the Nile, the desert and the colourful characters are imaginatively recreated.

Stories from Asia

Two tales from the great Indian literary works, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, will transport your children to the ancient world of Gods and Goddesses, brave monkey kings, evil demons and wise Gurus. Your children will be captivated and inspired by the rescue of Sita by Rama, and the skill of Arjuna the archer. This is a perfect workshop to accompany your Diwali celebrations or topics such as Global Stories, World Tales and Asia.

Stories from Africa

The classic Spider tale of ‘How Anansi Became King of All the Stories’, along with the timeless creation story of ‘How the Zebra Got His Stripes’ are brought to life in this colourful action- packed story workshop. Your children will revel in creating the muddy scene of a mangrove swamp and marvel as the cunning Anansi captures the fearsome leopard Osebo. This workshop is suitable for Black History Month and topics such as World Tales and Africa.

This was a fantastic introduction to our Anglo-Saxon topic and our literacy topic on Myths and Legends. Grendel really inspired some fascinating beasts in their own written work.
