Key Stage 2
Shakespeare Drama Sessions
These Shakespeare drama workshops can be used as a stimulus for literacy work, the study of the Tudors or to complement a school Book Week. These workshops bring Shakespeare's language, characters and storylines to life in a fun and creative way using movement and vocalisation.
The use of Shakespeare's original text is woven into the workshop in a very accessible, child friendly way. The children are encouraged to experiment with the sounds, rhythms and beauty of his language.
The workshop will deepen the children's understanding of your chosen play. The practical approach allows them to develop their interpretation of the themes involved and relate Shakespeare's ideas to their own experiences and behaviour.
The Shakespeare workshops offer an ideal platform for developing PSHE, confidence and communication skills. The teamwork format is ideal for developing communication skills and Shakespeare's characters' dilemmas raise issues of morality, decision making and choice.
Choose from the following four popular plays:
- A Midsummer Night's Dream — The enchanting world of fairies, nobles and working folk.
- Romeo and Juliet — The universally relevant story of star-crossed lovers caught up in a bitter power struggle.
- Macbeth — The haunting world of witches, blasted heathland and murderous ambition.
- Twelfth Night — One of Shakespeare's great comedies. A merry play full of love entanglements, jealousy, mistaken identity, cross-dressing and duels.
If your chosen Shakespeare play isn't listed above, we are happy to create a workshop for you for a small, additional fee. Give us a call on 0844 800 2870 to discuss your needs.
A chance for teachers to observe and assess
“It brought Romeo and Juliet to life and provided a range of ideas for activities that we could do with the children when we study other plays by Shakespeare.”
Ralph Sellick, Wykeham Primary School, Hornchurch
“They felt they really understood the characters by the end of the session. It allowed the students to see how important understanding the feel of the words and text is.”
Gretchen Kube, Eaton Square School, London
“Another brilliant workshop. It's amazing how much the children learned.”
Dave Cox, Frithwood Primary School, Middlesex
