Autumn 2019 Important Dates

Next year Freshwater will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birthday, as well as commemorating the 80th anniversary of the start of the Second World War.

1st - Start of the Second World War, 1939 – 80th Anniversary
Second World War: Immerse yourself in the blackouts, rationing and evacuations of Home Front Britain as your class imagines what life was like for children during the Second World War. Read more.
4-10th – Great Fire of London, 1666
Great Fire of London: Experience London in 1666 as we recreate life in Pudding Lane, meet the famous diarist Samuel Pepys and debate the rebuilding of the city. Read more.
8th – International Day of Literacy
From story quests down Dickensian streets to international tales from Asia and Africa, our Literacy, Storytelling and Shakespeare series has something to delight all primary ages. 



1st-31st - Black History Month
Our workshops are the perfect way to bring individuals and events from Black History past and present to life for children. We have lots to offer from A Carnival of Stories, Quest for Windrush to Stories from Africa. Browse our entire Black History series here.
4-10th – World Space Week – The Moon: Gateway to the Stars
To celebrate World Space Week and the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landings, we have an awe-inspiring space series featuring a brand new Neil Armstrong session.
5th – World Teachers' Day
Teacher CPD: Gain the skills and confidence to use drama as an effective teaching tool across all areas of your curriculum. Come away with a pratical toolbox of strategies to support your children's speaking and listening skills. Read more.
27th – Diwali
• Early Years Story Hunt - Diwali: Explore the meaning and traditions of Diwali, featuring the story of Rama and Sita.
• Stories from AsiaImmerse children in the ancient world of gods, goddesses and wise gurus as they explore sacred Hindu tales.
• Dance through DiwaliPromoting health and fitness, confidence and artistic expression, this exciting workshop explores Diwali through creative movement activities.



1st-30th – Anti-Bullying Month
Staying Safe: Anti-BullyingLed by the Knight of Knowledge, children look at different types of bullying and exploring the best strategies for dealing with bullying.
5th – Bonfire Night
Guy FawkesJoin our Time Traveller on a journey back to 1605. Meet Guy Fawkes and the King, and uncover the Gunpowder plot. Watch your class learn and participate in debates. Read more.
11th – Remembrance Day
Explore life in the trenches, air raids and evacuations in an engaging, sensitive and age appropriate way with our First World War or Second World War sessions. 


1-31st – Festive Period
• Early Years Story Hunt - Festive Fun: Meet Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman in an adventure which culminates in children creating their own festive story together. 
• Large Group Festive StorytellingPerfect as an end-of-term treat to get you into the festive spirit, delight your pupils with magical tales from around the world including Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Vasilisa and the Baba Yaga, and Aladdin.
22nd-30th – Chanukah 
• Dance through Chanukah: Promoting health and fitness, confidence and artistic expression, this exciting workshop explores Chanukah through creative movement activities.

Florence Nightingale – 200th Anniversary

Next year also marks the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birthday.

Travel with Florence to Scutari hospital whilst roleplaying scenes from her life in one of our most well-loved workshops.
